Three Republican candidates seeking a seat on the Manassas City Council say they’ll stay focused on small businesses and reduce the tax burden on city residents who pay the second-highest property tax rate in Virginia.

Harry Clark, a city resident of nearly 30 years, is making his first run at elected office. Since 2002, he’s served on multiple city boards and commissions to include the Planning Commission and the Board of Equalization.

Construction crews will begin to demolish the former Interstate 95 southbound overpass at Exit 133 (Route 17) in Stafford County starting Monday, Oct. 19.

Route 17 motorists should anticipate overnight lane closures, ramp closures and intermittent full traffic stops for several weeks in late October and November to allow crews to remove the former overpass.

Dr. Babur Lateef says Prince William County Public Schools are ready to send teachers back to work and students back to class.

As Chairman of the School Board, he says the school division can easily send students at all grade levels back to class in a hybrid 50/50 model, with half of the students learning from home and the other half attending classes in person.

The U.S. District Court has ordered an extension to the voter registration deadline for the Nov. 3, 2020, General and Special elections. Voters may continue to register through Thursday, Oct. 15, 2020.

Pursuant to the court’s order, the registration deadline for the Nov. 3, 2020, Presidential Election is 11:59 p.m. Oct. 15, 2020.

Area residents in need of Christmas gifts for children can apply for help this week.

Residents may apply to the Stafford Department of Social Services Holiday Program through Friday, October 16, 2020. The department sponsors meals and gifts for participants.
