Prince William County Public School Board Chairman Dr. Babur Lateef is asking the governor to relax his rules on social distancing in order to allow more people to attend 15 outdoor high school graduation ceremonies next month.

The largest county fair in Virginia will return for nine days in August.

After taking an unprecedented year off last year due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Prince William County Fair, an annual tradition that dates back more than 70 years, will be held from Friday, August 13 to Saturday, August 21.

Malicious Wounding by Mob – On May 10 at 3:08AM, officers responded to the Bayvue Apartments located in the 1400 block of Bayside Ave. in Woodbridge (22191) to investigate a stabbing. Upon arrival, officers located a 42-year-old man, suffering from severe stab wounds and provided immediate first aid until rescue personnel arrived.

The victim was flown to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries. The investigation revealed that a group of men were in the above area when an altercation ensued. During the altercation, a second victim, a 33-year-old man, was struck resulting in minor injuries before the parties separated.

Glenn Youngkin, formerly of the Carlyle investment firm, is Virginia’s Republican nominee for governor. The state’s GOP announced the decision Monday night, following a statewide unassembled convention that had occurred two days earlier.

Prince William County will get new funding to plan for a new shuttle service to serve the George Mason University Science and Technology Campus near Manassas.

The campus is the Prince William County hub for the Fairfax-based university. In addition to the school, the area surrounding campus, Innovation Park, is filled with technology companies, and the FBI Northern Virginia Regional Headquarters.

Virginia Tax is reminding taxpayers in Virginia, if you haven’t yet filed your individual income taxes, the filing and payment deadline is just days away. You have until Monday, May 17, 2021, to submit your return.

“This year, the typical May 1 filing and payment deadline was extended by a few weeks to match the new IRS deadline,” said Tax Commissioner Craig M. Burns. “We are, as always, encouraging you to file electronically and request a refund, if you have one coming, via direct deposit.”

May is Business Appreciation Month in Virginia, and the Prince William County Department of Economic Development (PWDED) is kicking off the month with the announcement of the first round of recipients of the IGNITE grant program awards.

“Our IGNITE grant program is a key to building momentum for attracting startups, innovators and entrepreneurs to Prince William County,” said Christina Winn, executive director of PWCDED. “This program has also benefited our strong existing business ecosystem as they reclaim and recover revenue lost in the pandemic.”
