At least one person has died following a crash in Stafford County.

A portion of a Route 1 is closed, just south of Hosptial Center Boulevard near Stafford Hosptial following the crash. Few details are available, but the Stafford sheriff’s office tells sent us the following information.

A former member of the Stafford County Board of Supervisors is trying to stall a vote on a redevelopment project to remake the county’s historic courthouse area.

Cord Sterling, who represented the Rock Hill District until he stepped down six years ago, sued the Board of Supervisors, asking a judge for an injunction to delay a vote set for Tuesday, July 6, on the Fountain Park project. The development would sit on six acres of privately-owned land, just across the county courthouse, with four buildings, 94 apartments, and street-level commercial space.

Stafford County will resume its annual 4th of July fireworks show at Pratt Memorial Park, after taking a year off last year due to the pandemic.

The event draws crowds from around the region to the park, located just outside of Fredericksburg. This year on, starting at 9 p.m. on Sunday, July 4, the county will close a portion of River Road — a key, two-lane pathway drivers use to access the park.


Prince William

The UVA Health System is now the sole owner of hospitals in Haymarket, Manassas, and Culpeper.

We told you back in February that the university health system would buy out North Carolina-based Novant’s stake in the hospitals.  The two companies formed a relationship in 2016 and operated all three hospitals independently of their parent companies in Charlottesville and North Carolina, respectively.
