Whatever you call it, the landslide election of Bob Weir to the Prince William Board of County Supervisors with more than 60% of the vote should serve as a wake-up call to those in power in not only Prince William County but those who see data centers as a cash cow for their respective jurisdictions.

A subcommittee of the House Rules Committee killed a resolution proposed by Delegate Candi Mundon King (D-Woodbridge, Stafford) resolution called the STARR Alert, which aims to notify auto repair shops of hit-and-run crashes, prompting the owners to be on the lookout for drivers that fled the scene of crashes might seek vehicle repairs.

In August 2022, 25-year-old Alexis Hicks was struck outside a Norfolk hospital and later succumbed to her injuries. The driver fled the scene, and the case remains unsolved.

Dumfries Town Councilman Brian Fields gave an earful to a resident and former mayoral candidate who questioned the marriage of two town employees — the police chief and a fellow officer.

Ebony Lofton, who mounted an unsuccessful bid to unseat Mayor Derrick Wood in November 2022, spoke at January 10, 2023, town council meeting. During her speech, Lofton called out the police chief Vernon Gaylen, who she said married officer Anna Torres, who reports to Gaylen, late last year.

Some Prince William County residents in the Dale City area are learning about a new natural gas pipeline that could be laid near their homes.

According to project documents, New York-based Opal Fuels is considering laying a seven-mile pipeline from the county’s landfill on Route 234 along a powerline easement that cuts through the Hillendale, Mapledale, and Princedale neighborhoods in Dale City, to the county government center at 1 County Complex Court, off Prince William Parkway in Woodbridge.
