Prince William

Prince William County Public Schools: “Rockledge Elementary School [2300 Mariner Lane, Lake Ridge] celebrated its 50th anniversary recently with a family and community event that included inflatables and carnival-type games, hidden coins to find, rock decorating, face painting, cake walk, food trucks, and more.”

“There were displays set up in the cafeteria of current and former school programs, clubs, all the school’s yearbooks, pictures, school floor plans from beginning to current, and aerial pictures of the school over the years. There was also a giant rock donated by the local Vulcan quarry, which was painted gold and signed by all who attended.”

National Weather Service Baltimore-Washington: “Severe thunderstorms are possible today, especially this afternoon and evening. ”

“Today: Isolated showers before 11 am, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 11 am and 5 pm, then scattered showers and thunderstorms after 5 pm. Some of the storms could produce small hail and gusty winds. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 84. Light and variable wind is becoming northwest at 6 to 11 mph in the afternoon. The chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and a quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Fredericksburg Nationals: “The Fredericksburg Nationals fell behind early to the Pelicans and could not come back in a 7-3 defeat.”

“Myrtle Beach took the lead right away in the bottom of the first on a Moises Ballesteros home run to left field. Then in the second inning, the Pelicans extended their lead. Rafael Morel and Pedro Ramirez opened the frame with back-to-back singles, then Miguel Pabon doubled back up the middle to plate Morel to make it a 2-0 edge. Reivaj Garcia added another run with an RBI groundout before Ballesteros struck again with a single into right, which brought Pabon across with the fourth run.”

Prince William

Virginia Department of Transportation:  “Lomond Drive between Lomond South Drive and Manassas Drive (Route 213) will be closed to through traffic from 8 p.m. Friday, June 16, through Friday, June 30 to replace a pipe culvert, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.”

“Those needing to reach properties along Lomond Drive will have access; however, traffic will not be able to go beyond the point of pipe culvert replacement (between 9404 and 9407 Lomond Drive) in either direction.”

Stafford County Sheriff’s Office: “On June 14th, at approximately 5:49 p.m., Deputy E.E. West responded to Kellogg Mill Road for a single-vehicle auto accident. The caller advised the driver smelled like alcoholic beverages. When Deputy West arrived on the scene, she observed the vehicle in a ditch with damage to its front bumper. The road was shut down until the vehicle could be properly removed.”

“The driver advised he was traveling South on Kellogg Mill Road after work when the vehicle in front of him began to slow down. The driver attempted to slow down; however, his brakes were so bad he could not slow down in time. To avoid a crash, he swerved into the ditch. The driver had red, glassy eyes, slurred speech, the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath, and admitted to consuming some Twisted Tea.”

Prince William County Sheriff: “Prince William County Sheriff Glendell Hill is pleased to announce the awarding of $500 and $1,000 scholarships to six local college students on Friday, June 9, 2023. The scholarship presentation was held in the Prince William County Sheriff’s Office Conference Room.”

“The scholarship recipients, among their family members, were recognized for their academic achievements and commitment to pursuing a college education in the criminal justice field. During the presentation, Sheriff Hill spoke to the students on the importance of staying grounded. He stated, “don’t let peer pressure cause you to make bad decisions because it will affect your future career in criminal justice negatively.” He also commended the students for wanting to pursue a career in law enforcement.”
