The Haymarket Regional Food Pantry (www.HaymarketFoodPantry.org) is hosting its first annual “Send Hunger Swinging” Golf Tournament on Saturday, September 12, 2015. This four person scramble will be held at the Prince William Golf Course located at 14631 Vint Hill Road in Nokesville, VA. The cost to golf is $90.00 per golfer $180 per twosome or $325 per foursome. The event will begin with a 9:00 AM shotgun start. All proceeds benefit the Haymarket Regional Food Pantry.
The tournament includes several contests including: Hole in One, Closest to the Pin, Longest Drive (male), Longest Drive (Female), First and Second Place Foursome plus fun prizes and raffles. The day’s events will be followed by a luncheon and awards ceremony.
The Gainesville Haymarket Baseball League is proud to announce that the GHBL 14 Year Old All Star team, managed by Jim Whitt and made up of players from Gainesville, Haymarket, Bristow and Fauquier are headed to the Babe Ruth World Series in Pine Bluff, Ark.
They earned the trip by winning the Virginia State Championship for the second consecutive year in early July. They then won the Southeast Regional Title in Jupiter, Fla. over Tennessee by the score of 7-6 on Saturday August 1, 2015.
The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office is reporting that August 2 – 9 is National Stop on Red Week. The Sheriff’s Office, along with communities and law enforcement agencies across the nation will be raising awareness about the dangers of red-light running.
In 2013, 697 people were killed and an estimated 127,000 were injured in crashes that involved red light running. The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office will have additional deputies on the road helping to enforce red light laws and reminding motorists that running red lights is a potentially fatal driving practice.

The Southbridge Swim Team defended their 2014 Prince William Swim League Purple Division championship title with a win on Saturday, Aug. 1, at the Urbanna Swim Club in Manassas. The Southbridge Seals captured their third divisional title in four years against tough competition from the Lake Manassas Blue Dolphins and the Urbanna Otters. The final score was Southbridge 3691.5, Lake Manassas 3397, and Urbanna 2711.5.

Beverly Williams Hess has been named the next executive director of the Center for the Arts at the Candy Factory on 9410 Battle Street, Manassas.
Hess is currently the director of the Youth Orchestras of Prince William. She will take over management of the Center August 17, after 10 years with the Youth Orchestras, an award-winning non-profit youth organization in Woodbridge, Virginia. Hess replaces Sally Lay who is retiring after leading the Center for 28 years.

Since 2005, students in grades 4-12 have been gathering at PWC Orchestra Camp for fun and a chance to strengthen their skills. Led by Lake Ridge Middle School Orchestra Director Karen von Bernewitz, the camp has seen steady growth and now welcomes more than 100 students each year.
