A Fresh Focus

I have killed many plants in my day.  Once, I even killed a bamboo plant, which is actually quite difficult. Bamboo is probably the only plant that would survive the apocalypse.  My inability to keep plants of any variety alive concerns me, partly because I love homegrown produce and partly because this can’t bode well for motherhood (but that’s neither here nor there).

MANASSAS, Va. — Community organizations and business leaders in Prince William County and Manassas are going the extra mile this summer to “Send a Kid to Camp.” For the next 10 days, seven prominent members of the community will embark on a quest to raise $50,000 to help give at-risk youth the opportunity to attend summer camp at one of three Boys and Girls Clubs branches in the area.

With the “10 Days to Summer Camp — Send a Kid to Camp” fundraiser, raising funds for the campaign will be be done easily and electronically using Crowdrise, a web service which allows anyone to go online and make a donation to one of seven teams all playing for same goal — to Send a Kid to Camp.

MANASSAS, Va. – Several members of the community including business owners, school teachers, heads of non-profit organizations, and youth, will be recognized on a charity dinner on Friday.

The 24th Annual Prince William / Manassas Boys and Girls Steak ‘N Stake Dinner will be held at the Hylton Performing Arts Center in Manassas starting at 6 p.m. Friday. The black tie event is the largest fundraiser for an organization that prides itself on providing quality childcare and activities for at-risk youth for a $30 annual membership.

Every couple of months, I’ll be eating my “old standby” meal when I realize mid-bite: I am in a food rut. It happened most recently over a bowl of oatmeal. Oats had become my staple in my morning. And I made them the exact same way every single time. The predictability of my morning meal was starting to grate on my nerves so greatly that I decided to take a break from the mundane oatsy mush I found myself forcing down.
