QUANTICO — Marine Corps Base Road is renamed in honor of distinguished Marine and FBI agent.

Officials at Quantico Marine Corps Base renamed a street leading to its weapons training facility on the base. The formerly and simply named “27200 Road” has been renamed in honor of Colonel Walter R. Walsh, a former agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and served in the Marines from the start of the U.S. entry into World War II, most notable as a shooting instructor, until his retirement in the 1970s.

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY — Nokesville will hold its annual Nokesville Day Parade on Saturday, May 19.

All the event’s activities will be found on Fitzwater Drive and will be suitable for both kids and adults. Those activities will include craft vendors, food vendors, and children’s activities such as moon bounces and face painting.

STAFFORD — Senator Tim Kaine (D) on Friday participated in a roundtable discussion with educators in Stafford County.

Chief among the concerns of educators who gathered Friday at Stafford Middle School on Spartan Drive was how to attract and retain teachers in rural areas. Kaine listened to teachers and administrators in the hopes of finding ideas of how to solve the county’s woes.

STAFFORD — Stafford County Fire and Rescue Department has applied for a grant for new dry fire hydrants.

The Stafford County Board of Supervisors authorized County Administrator Thomas Foley to submit a grant application for dry hydrants with the Virginia Department of Forestry.

The Stafford County Board of Supervisors this week voted to deny Comcast an early renewal of its franchise in Stafford County — an agreement it needs to provide cable TV, internet, and telephone services in the county.
