Scott Surovell will replace the long-serving Virginia State Senator Toddy Puller.
Puller served in the Senate since 1999, and seven years in the House of Delegates before that. The Democrat will retire this year.

On the evening of Thursday, November 5th the Dominion Valley Market Square shopping center welcomed in a new small business with the grand opening of Macaron Tart, a French Pasterisse that specializes in naturally made sweets and baking classes. Owner Elena Hocking welcomed Chairman of the Board of Supervisors, Corey Stewart and Gainesville District Supervisor Pete Candland as well as business, government and civic leaders to join the Macaron Tart in celebrating small business at this community event.
The evening began with an array of baked goods, both sweet and savory, as those in attendance marveled at the creations made by French trained pastry Chef and owner Elena. She welcomed the crowd to the Macaron Tart as she spoke of how excited she was to bring a taste of Paris to Haymarket to share with the community.

A Gainesville woman was raped by four men, and a 17-year-old male at a house in Haymarket, police said.
The victim passed out, and later woke up to find she had been sexually assaulted. The woman then went to a hospital.

Repairs to a culvert on Ashton Avenue are complete. The road reopened to traffic this afternoon, according to a press release from the Virginia Department of Transportation.
Ashton Avenue near Manassas will stay closed for about week longer than planned.
To celebrate Veterans Day, Prince William Republicans will show their appreciation for veterans, active duty military, and their families by hosting a free dinner. The Prince William Republican Women’s Club will host its 3rd Annual Veterans Day Eve Dinner on Tuesday, November 10 at 7pm in Manassas. The event is open and free to any veteran, military member and their families, regardless of political affiliation.
The dinner will include Italian food, and will take place at the Regency Apartments Community Room, which is located at 11201 Partnership Lane, Manassas, VA 20109. Senator Dick Black talked to Potomac Local about Dominion’s decision to urge the placement of a new power line in Haymarket above ground instead of a hybrid option that included a portion of the power line built above ground and a portion below.
Police in Prince William County identified the men they said killed Gilbert Kindard, a man who was found on the steps of Dale City town house early Sunday.
