Work on widening U.S. 1 between Mary’s Way and the Occoquan River just kicked into Phase II.

Crews have focused their attention on the area between Route 123 and Annapolis Way, where many buildings have been boarded up or already razed — including an old Taco Bell restaurant and motel — to make way for the wider interchange at Routes 1 and 123.

Manassas City Police Detective David Abbott was a 16-year ice hockey coach with the Potomac Patriots, a youth team that plays at the Prince William Ice Center in Dale City.

Abbott, a Manassas officer since 2001, turned a gun on himself Tuesday morning and killed himself after police officers came to his home to serve him with a search warrant. Police said Abbott was charged with two counts of indecent liberties with a minor, and that he had inappropriate relationships with two teenage boys.

Prince William County Public Schools report the secure the building status has been lifted at all schools affected: C.D. Hylton High School, and Rosa Parks, McAuliffe, and Enterprise elementary schools.

Police are on the scene of a burglary in the 5600 block of Roundtree Lane in Dale City.

Chick-fil-A is preparing for a “parking lot party” in Lake Ridge tonight.

The company’s newest location at Prince William Parkway and Old Bridge Road will open on Wednesday, December 16. That means a small crowd is expected to gather in the Chick-fil-A parking lot to line up to the first to enter the restaurant and to win a one-year supply of Chick-fil-A Food.
The fast-food restaurant is a popular destination for the region.

A panel discussion about the work underway at the Prince William Science Accelerator was held Wednesday.

The county’s economic development office invited the public for an open house. Food and beverage were served, and panelists served up perspective on partnerships between the private firms who have offices in the Accelerator and nearby George Mason University.

Man pleads guilty to murder in killing of FBI police officer

A new report calls the October 4 death of a Prince William County man justifiable homicide. 

Police said 48-year-old Stephen Brown was killed by his son on Oct. 4, 2015 at their home in the 12700 block of Lost Creek Court near Dale City.
