DUMFRIES — Police are investigating the burglary of a gas station in Dumfries.
Officers were called to the Valero gas station at 17315 Jefferson Davis Highway at 2:52 a.m. An alarm had been activated, triggering the police call.
PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY — The Potomac Nationals want to stay in Prince William County and are looking for a way to make that happen.
“We’re exploring all options, including a few locations in Prince William County, ” said Art Silber, the owner of the Minor Leauge Baseball team.
WOODBRIDGE — Supervisor Frank Principi on Tuesday introduced a proposed ordinance to change the name of a volunteer fire and rescue company, and the name of the main thoroughfare that runs through his district.
Principi proposed changing the name of Jefferson Davis Highway (Route 1) in Woodbridge, named after the president of the Confederacy. He also proposes to change the name of Stonewall Jackson Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department outside Manassas, one of the busiest fire companies in Prince William County.
STAFFORD — Authorities in Stafford County are searching for the man they say stabbed another man near the England Run Library.

The city’s planning commission will hold a public hearing on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at city hall to get input on the location of the proposed station.
GAINESVILLE — Multiple groups of people on Monday moved along Route 29 in Gainesville as part of the “March to Confront White Supremacy.”
A cluster of state and local police took position near a bridge near University Avenue about 9 a.m. At various stops along the road, about 100 walkers would eventually join the walk which arrived in Gainesville on Saturday night.

STAFFORD COUNTY — Despite the cancellation of other Civil War history events in our area, Stafford County will hold theirs as planned.
The annual Yankees in Falmouth event scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 9 and Sunday, Sept. 10 will feature re-enactors dressed in period clothing, a blacksmith, artillery, and cannon fire demonstrations.
PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY — A new school speed zone could be coming to the one-year-old Charles Colgan Sr. High School.
County officials in public documents state there have been multiple requests for a 35 mph zone in front of the school located on Route 234, near Hoadly Road at Independent Hill. A public hearing on the matter is scheduled tomorrow, Sept. 5 at 2 p.m. at the Prince William County Board of Supervisors meeting at the Prince William County Government Center in Woodbridge.
