From Prince William fire and rescue: 

Units were dispatched to the El Polo Rico restaurant in the 14000 block of Minnieville Road for a building fire. Units arrived on the scene with smoke showing from the roof. The fire was discovered in the exhaust ventilation duct system. The fire was quickly brought under control. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Fire Marshal’s Office. The business will be closed until repairs are made.

From Prince William police: 

Due to an influx of cats entering the Animal Shelter— and with kitten season in full swing—the Shelter has nearly reached capacity. The public’s help is needed as Shelter staff implement a managed intake policy for cats. The policy is designed to ensure that adequate care is provided for the animals housed at the Shelter.

MANASSAS — Police have yet to locate a man who they suspect called 911 and told authorities he was near George C. Round Elementary School, armed with a gun.

That 911 call about 1 p.m. Tuesday sparked a system-wide lockdown of all Manassas City Public Schools as police swarmed the area outside Round Elementary. No gunman was ever seen.  Police pinged the cell phone used to call 911 to a location near Round Elementary, however, the cell phone has also not been found.

On June 13 at 7:30 p.m., the Hylton Performing Arts Center hosts the Heroes’ Voices National Poetry Contest Reading, an evening of live music and poetry that explores many perspectives on war, peace, and military service. The performance culminates the Heroes’ Voices National Veterans Poetry Contest, which is a cooperative venture between Heroes’ Voices in San Francisco, CA and George Mason University in Manassas, VA. Tuesday, June 5, at approximately 1:00pm, Manassas City Police received a call from Prince William County Police Emergency Communications Center advising they received a 911 call from an unknown male stating he had a gun and was experiencing a mental health crisis near a Manassas City Public School.
