ALEXANDRIA – (Press Release) A former probation officer pleaded guilty today to obstructing a federal grand jury investigation into armed drug traffickers and gang members.

According to court documents, Abass Conteh, 28, of Dumfries, served as a Virginia Department of Corrections Probation and Parole Officer working in Prince William County in 2017. As part of his duties, Conteh met with law enforcement officers and discussed ongoing criminal investigations, including with a Prince William County Police Department (PWCPD) gang detective.

Corey A. Stewart, Republican faces steep competition on November 6 race. According to a September press release, Sen. Tim Kaine held “double-digit leads over Republican nominee Corey Stewart (R) among both registered and likely voters.” In a recent letter, one resident cited local land use issues that could also affect Stewart’s outcomes. But it’s not over  until it’s over. Stewart still has a loyal base of followers and voters.

We sent survey questions to Stewart and all local candidates running in the upcoming election. Below are Stewart’s responses.

Matt J. Waters, Libertarian for Senate, joined the race against incumbent Democrat Tim Kaine and Republican Corey Stewart because of his concern over federal spending. He faces an uphill battle against the two other candidates who have been entrenched in the national political scene and spotlight via their respective parties.

We sent survey questions to Waters and all local candidates running in the upcoming election. Below are Waters’ responses.

Republican Congressman J. “Rob” Wittman (incumbent) has been at the forefront of the local races, participating in debates and forums like the one in October at University of Mary Washington. Not afraid to tackle controversial questions, he does face competition by Vangie A. Williams (D) who has made a name and following of her own.

Incumbent Sen. Timothy M. Kaine (D) has not been afraid to voice his opinion on controversy, most recently in his push to gain federal protection for school drinking water. According to a September press release, Kaine held “double-digit leads over Republican nominee Corey Stewart (R) among both registered and likely voters.”

That could change, however, come November 6.


Politics

Rep. Gerald Edward Connolly, Democratic incumbent, faces a three-way race November 6. He’ll be up against Republican Jeff A. Dove Jr. and Libertarian Stevan M. Porter.

 STAFFORD – (Press Release) On Friday, November 9, 2018, several SCPS elementary schools will host Veterans Day ceremonies.

Widewater Elementary is hosting their first Veterans Day flag ceremony on the front lawn at 9:30 a.m. Past and present service members will dress in uniform. Students and families are encouraged to wear red, white, and blue in show of support. The Widewater PTO is selling flags to wave during the ceremony for $1.00 each.
