Arrest in arson leads to stolen vehicle case

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY — (Press Release) On February 3, 2019, the Prince William County Fire Marshal’s Office was called to investigate a vehicle fire that was involved in a crash and abandoned at the intersection of Grayson Road and Matthews Drive in Woodbridge.

The joint investigation, with the Prince William County Police, involved additional charges related to a stolen vehicle, reckless driving, and a crash. Through the investigation of the vehicle fire, the origin and cause was determined to be arson.

Upon arrival officers located an adult female suffering from an apparent stab wound. The victim, who was identified as a 26-year-old resident of Manassas, was flown to a local area hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Virginia sees population booms and big declines

RICHMOND — So far this decade, Virginia has grown — and shrunk — in population.

Seventy of the state’s 133 cities and counties gained population between April 1, 2010, and July 1, 2018, according to data released this week by the Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service at the University of Virginia. The population of Loudoun County, in Northern Virginia, jumped 30 percent, to more than 406,000.

Bill allowing removal of Confederate monuments dies in House

RICHMOND — Tension filled the room Wednesday as a House subcommittee voted to kill a bill that would have let localities decide whether to remove or modify Confederate monuments in their jurisdictions.

Del. David J. Toscano, D-Charlottesville, introduced House Bill 2377, which sought to change the current law that makes it illegal to disturb or interfere with war monuments. His bill would have given cities and counties authority to remove Confederate or Union monuments. This is the second year Toscano has sponsored such legislation.
