MANASSAS — Police say they’ve identified the person behind a threatening social media post that appeared Saturday as a student from Stonewall Middle School near Manassas. The threat is not credible, and the student is now being interviewed by police.

Step off the sidelines and onto the court as a volunteer at Basketball Championships, March 1-2 in Stafford. Competitions will take place at various middle and high schools and include full court games, half court games, individual skill drills and unified games, where players with and without disabilities play on the same team.

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY — (Press Release) Raising Voices, a new program of opera and musical theater, will premier at the Hylton Performing Arts Center on Sunday, April 7 at 4 p.m.

The performance is a collaboration of George Mason University’s College of Visual and Performing Arts and the Washington National Opera. It features the combined talent of Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist and Mason Opera and Vocal Studies students.

RICHMOND — Local governments that rely on commonwealth’s attorneys for legal advice can breathe a sigh of relief: State legislators have discarded a provision that would have prevented commonwealth’s attorneys from serving as county, city or town government attorneys.

The Senate on Tuesday unanimously approved two bills that require training for local elected officials. Both bills originally included clauses that would restrict the commonwealth’s attorney position, but the clauses were removed before the Senate passed the legislation.

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY — (Press Release) Out of concern for the health and well-being of patients, Novant Health UVA Health System joins Novant Health in asking the community to keep visitors age 12 and under out of all acute care facilities due to the widespread outbreak of the flu virus throughout the community.

This restriction is effective on Friday, Feb. 8, at 7 a.m. until further notice.

RICHMOND — The Virginia Senate and House of Delegates on Tuesday each passed bills prohibiting motorists from touching their cellphones while driving.

The Senate approved SB 1341 on a vote of 34-6, and the House passed HB 1811, 69-27. The bills would explicitly ban using a hand-held communication device, unless it is in hands-free mode, while operating a vehicle.

CULPEPER — (Press Release) Virginia State Police Trooper W.C. Beard responded to a report of a plane crash in Culpeper County. The crash occurred Feb. 10, 2019 at 4:05 p.m. on Route 3 at 8 tenths of a mile east of Route 788.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a Single Engine Cessna Aircraft suffered engine failure after taking off from Warrenton Airport. The aircraft made an emergency landing on Route 3 and then struck a utility pole. The impact also caused the aircraft to strike a fence.

RICHMOND — Democratic leaders called on Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax to resign after a second woman stepped forward Friday and accused him of sexual assault.

Meredith Watson said Fairfax raped her when they were both students at Duke University in 2000, according to a news release posted by her lawyers. “Mr. Fairfax’s attack was premeditated and aggressive,” the release said.


Upon further investigation, officers determined the suspected prowler, had made entry into a resident’s garage before fleeing the area. Responding officers circulated the area and located the suspect who led police on a brief foot chase before eventually being taken into custody after a minor use of force.

No injuries were reported. The suspect was later identified as Saquan Milik PAYNE, a 22-year-old resident of Manassas. PAYNE was charged with Burglary and Theft from a Motor Vehicle, and is currently being held on $5,000.00 secured bond. PAYNE is currently scheduled to appear in court on March 13, 2019.


PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY — (Press Release)  Commercial Burglaries – On February 5, officers responded to the area of Dale Blvd and Minnieville Road in Dale City to investigate five commercial burglaries.

The investigation revealed that entry was made into Tops China, Nail Club, Margarita Grill, Party World, and KikiRiki through the front doors, which were found damaged, sometime between midnight and 3 a.m.
