Woodbridge, Va. — Transportation challenges in the Potomac Communities are getting recognition from state officials.
North Stafford, Va. — Those who are used to seeing traditional police cars on Stafford County streets, the Crown Victoria made by Ford, did a double take last week.
The Stafford Sheriff’s Office showed off one of two new police cars at their annual National Night Out celebration at Stafford Marketplace on off Va. 610 on Aug. 2.
At their recent meeting in the Virginia State Capitol, members of the Virginia Commission on Civics Education elected Del. Richard L. Anderson (R-Prince William) to chair the group as it works to enhance the quality of civics education as an important part of public education in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The General Assembly created the Commission in 2005 and Anderson has been a member since 2010.
Anderson succeeds State Senator J. Chapman “Chap” Petersen, who represents the 34th Senatorial District (Fairfax City and part of Fairfax County).
Dumfries, Va. — On Saturday, Dumfries held its second-annual Multicultural Festival.
It was the largest multicultural fest for the town yet, as more than 300 people came to the town’s Merchant Park outside the Weems-Botts Museum to and were greeted by food from different regions of the world, crafts and live music.
Stafford, Va. — A Commonwealth Attorneys candidates’ debate unveiled who wants to change the system and which candidate is proud of the office’s accomplishments.
Republican candidates Eric Olsen, current Assistant Commonwealth Attorney in Stafford County, and defense attorney Jason Pelt squared off Monday night at the Stafford County Government Center. Both are vying to lead the county’s prosecutor’s office and at issue were the county’s heavy reliance on jury trials, it’s described low, utopian-like crime rate, and the importance of keeping or changing course in an office held for 40 years by now retiring Daniel Chichester.

The Stafford County Board of Supervisors chambers, where tonight’s debate is taking place, is beginning to fill up. Nearly every seat in the chamber is filled with supporters of either Olsen or Pelt. Follow us on Twitter and Facebook as we live blog the debate.

Prince William County, Va. — One candidate for Prince William County Board Chairman says he’s got educators on his side.
Dr. Babur Lateef told PotomacLocal.com Monday he has received the endorsement of the Prince William Education Association.

Woodbridge, Va. — It will soon be easier to drop train riders off in Woodbridge, give them a kiss and send them on their way.
Falmouth, Va. –– Waters in the Rappahannock River unexpectedly rose quickly Sunday afternoon, prompting the rescue of 18 stranded kayakers and their dogs near Falmouth.
Rescue crews were called at 2:44 p.m. to the Falmouth Bridge, which links Stafford County and Fredericksburg via U.S. 1, when nearby kayakers and four dogs became stranded on the river.
