Prince William County, Va. — Prince William County Public Schools announced this week that they are expanding upon an already successful program of selling advertising space on school websites.

PWCS was one of the first public school divisions in the country to offer advertising on school websites, featuring both regional businesses such as BB&T Bank and local business such as SwimKids Swim School on various school pages. These sponsorships were made available in 2008.

The fire broke out at 8:18 p.m., and after fire crews determined no one was inside the house they began a defensive attack on the fire, said Stafford fire and rescue spokesman Mark Doyle.

No one was injured in the blaze, however, a dog was killed in the fire.

The 1993 pickup was headed south on Backlick Road, near the entrance to Interstate 95, when it crossed over a median and struck head on a 1999 Jeep Cherokee, then side swiped a 1996 Oldsmobile sedan.

The truck flipped and came to a rest on its side, said a Fairfax County police spokesperson.

Its Washington National’ s Steven Strasburg’s second rehab start since undergoing Tommy Johns surgery in September, and the stands at Pfitzner Stadium off Prince William Parkway in Woodbridge are expected to be filled with fans to see a pitcher whom Washington paid a record $15 million to sign.

“I would guess between 8-9000 fans Friday Night,” said Potomac Nationals General Manager Josh Olerud.

This week brought the terrible news from Afghanistan that 30 American and seven Afghan service members, along with their Afghan interpreter, had perished when their Chinook helicopter was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade. The dead included members of Army, Air Force and Navy special operations units, with 22 of them being from SEAL Team 6, the unit credited with killing Osama bin Laden.

They were on their way to support a unit of Army Rangers that were engaging the Taliban in the Tangi Valley of Afghanistan’s Wardak Province.

Woodbridge, Va. — A new addition to Potomac Community Library in Woodbridge aims to make the building more of a community center.

The groundbreaking for the project, to develop the area behind the building into an outdoor plaza, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, according to Woodbridge Supervisor Frank Principi.

Lake Ridge, Va. — An area family is mourning one of the American heroes who died after he was shot down over Afghanistan last weekend.

Cheryl McNamee is the godmother of 25-year-old Michael Strange, a communications specialist with the Navy SEALS who was onboard a military helicopter shot down Saturday by at Taliban insurgent.


The plant had been closed and was undergoing renovations to reopen when he theft was reported, said Stafford sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy.

Six days later, detectives were back at the plant in an effort to catch the thieves, and were able to catch one man enter the plant at night. The arrest led to a two-month investigation that turned up evidence pointing to the seven others connected to the crime, said Kennedy.
