NORTH STAFFORD, Va. — A smoke-filled dining room forced restaurant goers outside Thursday night.

Stafford fire and rescue units were called to Jimmy the Greek restaurant on Va. 610 in North Stafford about 6:30 p.m. after a fire ignited in an outside dumpster.

STAFFORD, Va. — A road that carries commuters and thousands of school children is about to get an improvement.

Stafford County transportation officials Thursday held a public meeting about improvements to Mountain View Road. Last night, officials showed plans for improving about a half-mile stretch of the two lane road between Rose Hill Farm Drive and Pickett Lane. It’s the second section of a two-phase project aimed at modernizing the road, a thoroughfare which carries students to Margaret Brent Elementary and Mountain View High schools.

Jramage, a commenter on the popular Slug-lines.com website stated that he parked his Honda Civic at the Horner Road Commuter Lot off Prince William Parkway on March 7. He returned only to find someone had taken the wheels right off of his car.

He said he filed a police report and urged others to watch out for themselves.


Traffic

WOODBRIDGE, Va. — The trip home on Virginia Railway Express’ Fredericksburg line will be slower than normal today after ordered heat restrictions will reduce train speeds.

Forecasted record high temperatures prompted the owner of the railroad, CSX, to order trains to proceed down the tracks slower than normal. Usually seen during the hotter summer months, heat orders are usually issued to avoid cracked rails along the line.

DUMFRIES, Va. — A former Dumfries police officer of eight years is behind bars, charged with the sodomy of another man.

A 27-year-old Fredericksburg man told police and the FBI that he was sexually assaulted when he was a child between the ages of 12 and 16-years-old. Police said the assaults took place between 1996 and 2001.

DUMFRIES, Va. — The Virginia General Assembly has adjourned and Delegate Luke Torian, D-Dumfries, Woodbridge, has had another successful legislative session.

“The legislation that I supported was a result of the feedback that I received from constituents and community groups. And it has been clear to me that people want their representatives to bring more jobs and build stronger communities,” said Torian.

WOODBRIDGE, Va. — Legislators from the Potomac Communities are scheduled to appear tonight to talk about happenings at the recently concluded session of the Virginia General Assembly.

The Potomac Communities Civic Association has invited Virginia State Senators Chuck Colgan and Toddy Puller, and Delegates Luke Torian and Mark Dudenhefer to speak about legislation that was passed during the session, as well as give updates on items that impact Northern Virginia residents.

WOODBRIDGE, Va. — Woodbridge High School will host the Woodbridge Viking Invitational Indoor Percussion and Winter Guard competition on Saturday. The competition, which opens to the public at 8 a.m., will be held at the high school, located at 3001 Old Bridge Road in Woodbridge. More than 60 groups from high schools and colleges have registered to compete.

Tickets are $10 (cash only) payable at the door. Concessions will also be available for sale. Winter guard and indoor percussion are the fastest growing of the marching arts, and high school marching bands benefit from the skills developed in these winter programs. These include elements of music, choreography, and theater in color guard and percussion units.
