It takes a lot to keep a community of this size clean. But there are some dedicated individuals who work hard to do just that.

I’ll be joining Keep Prince William Beautiful at 9 a.m. Saturday for the annual Route 1 Clean Up. I’m told to meet outside the old Five Guys restaurant at Marumsco Plaza in Woodbridge to pick up some supplies and some always appreciated refreshments, and then we’ll begin working out way along U.S. 1, picking up litter and whatever else we find during our walk.

LORTON, Va. — Congressman Gerry Connolly will announce the winners of the 2012 Congressional Arts Competition for Fairfax and Prince William students residing in the 11th Congressional District at an awards reception on Saturday, April 28 at 4 p.m. at the Lorton Workhouse Arts Center.

All student art entries will remain on display at the Lorton Workhouse, Gallery W-16, 9601 Ox Road, (Route 123) in Lorton through April 29.

WOODBRIDGE, Va. — A portion of the High Occupancy Vehicle lanes will close again tonight and tomorrow as work on the 95 Express Lanes project ramps up.

The HOV express lanes facility is normally open to southbound drivers Friday night through Saturday afternoon. Tonight and tomorrow beginning at 11 p.m., however, the lanes will close from Franconia-Springfield Parkway to Va. 234 in Dumfries as crews complete test boring work.

DUMFRIES, Va. — If you’re looking for a fun event that the whole family will enjoy, then consider taking a trip to the Piccadilly Circus in Dumfries from April 18 to the 22. This year’s presentation from the Piccadilly Circus, titled “Blast!” includes performing animals, acrobatic stunts.

DUMFRIES, Va. — Three men are in custody after a man walking his dog was robbed at gunpoint in Williamstown.

Police said the robbery happened at 1:24 a.m. in the area of Williamstown Drive and Old Triangle Road in Dumfries. A car pulled up alongside the victim and two males armed with handguns got out and took the victim’s jacket and cell phone, then got back into the car and fled the area, according to police documents.

LORTON, Va. — The remains of two men from Prince William County who went missing in 2010 turned up in Lorton.

Fairfax County police today confirmed two sets of human remains found, one on July 12, 2010 and the other on March 15, 2011, were those of 32-year-old Manuel De Jesus Mireles-Garcia and 31-year-old Alberto Mireles-Garcia. Both men who were brothers went missing in Triangle in May 2010.
