Police in the Woodbridge and Triangle areas are warning residents about a rash of burglaries in their neighborhoods. More from a press release:

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARIES

There have been recent reports of residential burglaries in the South Woodbridge and Dumfries/Triangle areas between Sept. 13 and Oct. 16, 2012. The times vary; however a large number have been during the workday hours. The affected streets are: Uppsala Court, Flotsam Lane, Gloucester Court, Chesapeake Drive, Oak Tree Lane, Clancy Drive, Stonewall Manor Drive, Cabin Road, Sapling Way and Old Triangle Road.

Noticeable forced entry was used in only three of the burglaries; the majority of the cases involved no sign of forced entry or an unlocked/open entry point.

Remember:

Keep all doors and windows locked, even if at home.

If you hear something, do not investigate. Go to a safe room in your home, call the police (911) and stay on the line.

Be on the lookout for suspicious persons or activity during the day as well as during evening hours.

REPORT all suspicious persons or activity to the police.

What do I do if I am the victim of a burglary?

Do not enter the house.

Call the police immediately.

While waiting for the police do not touch anything or allow anyone to enter your home.

What can I do to help prevent a burglary?

If your community has a Neighborhood Watch, volunteer to participate. If your community does not have one, start one.

The most important thing you can do is call the police to report a crime or any suspicious activity. You are the eyes and ears for your community.

FREDERICKSBURG, Va – Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan rallied supporters and tried to sway undecideds in Fredericksburg on Tuesday.

Approximately 3,000 people attended the event, which was held at the Fredericksburg Expo Center.

Vendors sold various Romney-Ryan election gear outside while concessions like hot dogs and potato chips were sold inside – a change from other political rallies, which usually don’t have any food on hand. The prevailing belief is that food could be thrown at speakers by anyone who disagreed with the candidate or who wanted to disrupt the event.

Country music singer Collin Raye entertained the crowd while people waited for the rally to begin a couple of hours after the doors opened.

The program began with an introduction from State Sen. Bryce Reeves, who could be seen working the room after the rally.

Del. Mark Cole led the Pledge of Allegiance and was followed by Del. Bobby Orrock, who led the invocation.

Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling thanked the audience for all they’re doing to elect Mitt Romney. Then Rep. Rob Wittman (R-1st)gave a rousing speech that got the crowd animated.

“As Virginia goes, so goes the nation,” said Wittman to many cheers. “The path to prosperity is by first balancing that federal budget.”

Wittman told the attendees that Ryan has been

in the Fredericksburg area before to hunt. “He’s
 a good friend of Fredericksburg.”

Ryan then took the stage and declared that this is no ordinary four-year election. “It doesn’t matter which generation you are coming from, this is the most important election in your generation.”

Ryan called the current economic growth “anemic.” He pointed to the debt clock on the wall that showed America’s deficit as it’s increasing, then pointed to a child and said, “Take a look at that debt clock over there. Look at this little guy on his dad’s shoulders. And look at what he is getting.”

He said that “hope and change” have become “attack, defend and blame” and criticized Obama for not doing what he pledged to do as president, citing a laundry list of issues such as cutting the deficit and lowering energy prices.

“We have to tackle this country’s problems before they tackle us,” declared Ryan.

After the rally, Wittman told PotomacLocal.com that it’s critical that

Virginia Delegate Mark Cole (Mary Davidson/PotomacLocal.com)

people hear first hand Ryan’s vision and understand what he and Romney have in mind for the nation.

“There’s so much noise out there. There’s so much back-and-forth. I think for most to come out and hear it from somebody, it’s much more than a political advertisement. It’s more about understanding what [Ryan] stands for,” the congressman said.

Rally-goer Rick Kiper came because he thinks it’s important for candidates to see that they have a lot of support at the rally the way a minister does when the pews are filled at church. He took off of work early and drove from Stafford with his wife, Judy, and 17-month-old son, David. It was his first political rally.

Ryan’s running mate, Mitt Romney, appeared in Chesapeake and Leesburg, Va., on Wednesday.

STAFFORD, Va. -- In what was a contentious and, at times, nasty exchange, Stafford officials learned why some think it’s a bad idea for their government to mirror Prince William County’s.

Stafford’s “At-large seven” all-volunteer committee presented their findings to the Stafford County Board of Supervisors Tuesday night. Their job was to evaluate nearby counties like Prince William and Loudoun who have an at-large seat on their county Board of Supervisors.

DUMFRIES, Va. — When it comes to raising funds, the Boys and Girls Club will put their money where they mouth is.

For every donation made to the Prince William County / Manassas Boys and Girls Club over the next four months, the organization’s Board of Directors will match it. The goal is to raise $50,000 — $25,000 of which will be matched by Board — to fund an organization that allows children to create robots, shadow leaders of Fortune 500 businesses, and participate in challenging sports programs.

“Our Clubs impact thousands of youth each year that benefit from our $30 annual Club membership,” said Regional Board President Rhett Pfitzner. “That membership is what keeps our youth of all backgrounds participating in education, career, sports, character, technology and arts programming.”

The clubs also provide childcare and a summer camp program, and are supported, in part, by a “Steak ‘N Steak” fundraiser held annually.

The Boys and Girls Clubs have locations in Dale City, Dumfries, and Manassas.
