A 1995 Gradall self propelled crane was southbound in the right lane.  A vehicle lost control on the wet roadway ahead of the crane. When the crane changed lanes to avoid its driver lost control and the crane overturned blocking the center and right lane.

The driver Dana R Gaddy, age 51 of Colonial Beach VA was transported to Stafford Hospital with non life threatening injuries.

On February 9, Prince William police detectives from the Special Victims Unit began a child pornography investigation.

The investigation was prompted by a cybertip that Prince William police received from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, said a Prince William police release.

Today is the day we recognize the continuing efforts of women to achieve full equality through the awareness of Equal Pay Day. The women’s equality movement has come a long way since the hard fought struggle to pass the 19th amendment back in 1919, but we still have a long way to go.

In 1996, The National Committee on Pay Equity (NCPE) established Equal Pay Day to increase public awareness on the pay gap between men and women. 19 years later, women on average still earn less than men and Equal Pay Day is still a necessary observation.

On March 28, Prince William police responded to a call from Novant Health Prince William Medical Center to investigate an assault. 

According to a Prince William police release, an investigation revealed that the victim, a 22-year old Manassas man, was with friends at a residence on Rembert Court in Gainesville, when the victim was assaulted by two acquaintances.

Stafford County Public Schools are open for Kindergarten registration for the 2015-16 school year. If you have a child who turns 5 years old by Sept. 30, 2015, the time to sign up for kindergarten is now. 

Kindergarten enrollment will be held from April 13 through May 15.

Christopher DiBenedetto, 32, of Prince William County, was sentenced to six years and six months in prison with an additional eight years and six months suspended for selling cocaine. The office of Attorney General Mark R. Herring announced the sentencing on April 10. DiBenedetto sold the drugs to confidential informants working at the direction of the Fairfax County Police Department.

DiBenedetto was also ordered to pay restitution of $4,950 and serve five years probation, according to a release by the attorney general’s office.

The Ferlazzo Elementary School debate reveals fundamental problems with the Prince William County School system.

Our county has a notorious problem of approving housing before planning and building the necessary infrastructure. However, when the housing around the intersection of Minnieville and Spriggs was approved, our leaders thought ahead. Before a single house was approved, proffered land was secured for a needed elementary school. Citizens and community leaders were involved, and the agreed upon needed infrastructure was secured.


Obituaries

Larry Blanchard, Jr., 44, of Pearland, TX passed peacefully at home following a battle with cancer on Thursday April 9, 2015.

He was born to Larry, Sr. and Elnora Blanchard on March 22, 1971 in Portsmouth, VA. He graduated with honors from Osbourn Park High School located in Manassas, VA in 1989 and studied at George Mason University in Fairfax, VA. He went on to receive a BA in Finance from the University of Phoenix in 2005. Larry moved to Houston, TX in 1999 and married Kathryn Searle on January 1, 2000. In 2002 they moved to Pearland, TX and were blessed with two daughters: Lauren in 2005 and Evelyn in 2010.
