PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY — There are summer camps, free movies, and lots more happening this month at historic sites throughout Prince William County.
The Civil War Basic Summer Camp at the Brentsville Courthouse Historic Centre is the place for children between the ages of 8 and 12 who want to learn about the Civil War.
FREDERICKSBURG — Central Rappahannock Regional Library presents New York Times bestselling author John Gilstrap at Colonial Beach Branch on Wednesday, July 17.
Gilstrap will speak about his latest book, Total Mayhem, which will be available for purchase.
You can volunteer to participate as an actor in Capital Fortitude, a full-scale mock-emergency exercise.
Everyone is welcome to come out and see a public health emergency response in action and help the community. There is also a giveaway for anyone interested in participating.
RICHMOND — Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Commissioner Stephen C. Brich announced that Barton A. Thrasher has been selected as the agency’s new chief engineer.
Thrasher brings over 25 years of transportation expertise, including experience from previous roles as VDOT’s statewide location and design engineer and the Richmond District engineer.

MANASSAS — Tickets for the Gatlin Brothers’ performance at the Hylton Performing Arts Center on Sept. 22 go on sale to the general public on Aug. 1.
The concert will take place at 7 p.m. on the Merchant Hall stage at 10960 George Mason Circle in Manassas.
MANASSAS — Columbia Gas of Virginia residential natural gas customers will receive a one-time refund in their July or August bills.
The refund comes as a result of a final order issued in June by the Virginia State Corporation Commission in Columbia’s 2018 base rate case.
STAFFORD — In June, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and Stafford County’s “wedge widening” project to widen Andrew Chapel Road was finished.
Drivers on Andrew Chapel Road will notice wider shoulders, a new layer of asphalt and brighter, freshly painted lane markings between Courthouse Road and Brooke Road.
Drivers planning to use Route 15 where it runs together with Route 29 (Route 15/29) at Prince William / Fauquier County border should prepare for a detour and delays.
Construction will take place between July 8 and Aug. 2, during which the highway’s northbound lanes will be closed.
