District Hemp Botanicals will close its store at 9417 Main Street in Historic Downtown Manassas on Saturday, Oct. 17, after nine years in business, founder Barbara Biddle announced this week.

In a letter published by Manassas NOW, Biddle said she was sharing the news “with a heavy heart.” She described the shop as a mission focused on education, access and alternatives, and said changing regulations, the loss of popular products and challenges for independent hemp businesses made it impossible to continue. A 50% closing sale runs through the final day.

“Members of the FMO identified this gap and took action to create a path to help young people in need rather than sending them straight into formal criminal process and likely to the Juvenile Detention Center,” Mike Hubbel, Prince William County Fire and Rescue battalion chief, said in a county release, according to InsideNova.

The Fire Marshal’s Office, Juvenile Court Service Unit, and Community Services built five pathways that range from direct fire-marshal handling to fire-safety education, behavioral-health evaluation, or standard juvenile processing. Youth ages 10–17 can be assessed after an incident or referred earlier through a healthcare provider, school counselor, or Community Services. Those who do not finish required components can be sent back to juvenile intake.

Dumfries Town Council on Tuesday approved the last local permits for a grocery-anchored project at 17439 and 17471 Old Stagecoach Road, voting three times and passing each item 7-0. The grocer has not been named. No one spoke at the public hearings.

The votes were taken at Town Hall, 17739 Main Street. They had been carried over from the Sept. 15 meeting, when the council rezoned about 15.33 acres from limited industrial to general business. That rezoning, REZ-2026-001, covers the parcels and right-of-way southeast of Route 1 and Potomac Shores Parkway. Tuesday’s items were the permits that still had to come back.
