Stafford County firefighters responded to a commercial building fire at 3619 Jefferson Davis Highway this morning at 8:48 a.m. First arriving units found fire visible from the roof of the Ricky’s Chicken II restaurant. The fire was located within the hood system in the kitchen area and had extended through the metal ductwork up through the roof. Firefighters conducted an aggressive fire attack and brought the fire under control in approximately 15 minutes. There was damage to cooking equipment in the kitchen, the roof of the building and an adjoining office suite. One lane of southbound Jefferson Davis Highway was shut down for a time during fireground operations.  (more…)


Good morning Prince William – Literacy Volunteers of America-Prince William is looking for volunteers to tutor adults who wish to improve their lives through literacy. Previous tutoring experience is not needed as their training series will give you all the skills needed to be successful. The next Tutor Training Workshop is Saturday, March 18th (8:45-4:00) with the follow-up on Saturday, April 1st (9:00-12:00). ‘

You will learn how to teach reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills to the students who are both American-born and English Language Learners. A bill that seeks to protect Virginians from losing their income tax refunds to identity thieves won final approval Wednesday in the General Assembly.
The bill’s sponsor, Del. Mark Keam, D-Vienna, said thieves can steal information from the payroll system of an employer or payroll service and use it to claim a state income tax refund before the real taxpayer files a legitimate return.

Brandon Bies has been named superintendent of Manassas National Battlefield Park in Virginia, where he will manage the lands and resources associated with two major Civil War battles. The historic meadows and woodlands of the 5,000-acre park draw more than 500,000 visitors annually.

From the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office: 

On February 14, 2017 at approximately 8:50 PM Deputy A.J. Layug responded to a hit and run at the intersection of Brent Point Road and Arkendale Road.  Upon arrival, Deputy Layug interviewed a male subject who advised that an oncoming blue Ford SUV had crossed over into his lane and collided with his vehicle.

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. — Prince Willaim County Clerk of the Circuit Court Michele McQuigg, 69, has died.

The lifelong public servant was working in her second eight-year term as clerk. We don’t know the circumstances of her death.

Strangulation | Domestic Assault & Battery – On February 15 at 12:00p.m., officers responded to a residence located in the 8100 block of Halsey Ct in Manassas (20110) to investigate a domestic assault. The victim, a 25-year-old woman of Manassas, reported to police that she and the accused, an acquaintance, were involved in a verbal argument which escalated.
