The hot weather will remain in place for the remainder of the week, with temperatures hovering in the mid 90s to 100 degrees, according to the weather service.

Traffic

This weekend marks the 150th Anniversary of the first battle of the Civil War at Manassas and Bull Run, and thousands are expected to pour into the region to commemorate the event with reenactments and festivities.

Because events will be happening in both Prince William County and Manassas, traffic is expected to back up on Dumfries Road (Va. 234) and Lee Highway (U.S. 29), said a Prince William police spokeswoman.

Potomac has now won 11 of their past 15 at Pfitzner Stadium and reached the .500 mark in home games at 22-22.

The matinee affair was eerily similar to Monday night’s ballgame. Potomac’s starter Adam Olbrychowski (3-5) worked out of early trouble and out-dueled his counterpart, Lynchburg righthander David Hale(1-4). The Nationals got a big hit in the early innings, relied on a trio of bullpen arms to shut down the Hillcats and prevent them from getting a single hit in 13 tries with runners in scoring position.

The driver of a 2007 Mercedes-Benz sedan pulled into the commuter lot off Garrisonville Road (Va. 610) and clipped the bumper of a 2003 Honda that was already parked in a row of other vehicles.

The Mercedes went on to strike a 1996 Mazda pickup injuring a 20-year-old male that was sitting inside the truck, said Virginia State Police Sgt. Les Tyler.

STAFFORD, Va. – –  Northern Virginia’s fight against the invasive Emerald Ash Borer continues.

The beetle, an intruder from Asia, is a threat to the area’s ash trees and has been the focus of a statewide advertising campaign urging campers to only use firewood collected from their campsite. Not moving firewood prevents the spread of the bug, state officials said.
