VRE riders delayed at Quantico

QUANTICO, Va.–It’s been a tough commute this morning for riders on Virginia Railway Express.

Train #310 left Fredericksburg on schedule at 7:10 a.m. but stalled south of Quantico just before 8 a.m. because of mechanical problems, VRE officials said.

That left passengers stuck on board the train and many more waiting to board at the Quantico stations, and at stations in Prince William and Fairfax counties.

VRE officials said Amtrak train #174 would allow VRE passengers bound for Washington to board that train with a valid VRE ticket.

As for the riders stuck on the stalled train, another VRE train was dispatched from Fredericksburg to couple with the stalled train. The plan was to push it up the line to get passengers to their destination.

The stalled train produced delays of about an hour.

This latest delay comes after the debut of VRE’s new express train from Fredericksburg was delayed for an hour Monday because of signal problems on the rail line, owned by CSX.
