UPDATED: No Charges Filed After Motorcyclist Dies in Crash

Update

No charges have been filed after a crash that killed a motorcyclist on Tuesday morning.

Here’s an update from Prince William police:

Crash – Fatality – On August 5th at 7:41AM, officers responded to the area of Aden Rd and Fleetwood Dr in Nokesville (20181) to investigate a crash. The investigation revealed that the operator of a 2008 Buell XB12XT motorcycle was traveling southbound on Aden Rd approaching the four-way stop intersection in the above area. As the operator approached the intersection, the driver of a 2003 Chevrolet 4500 truck, who had previously stopped on Fleetwood Dr, was continuing through the intersection. At that point, the operator of the motorcycle attempted to stop; however, collided with the truck in the intersection. Investigators determined that the driver of the truck had the right-of-way in the intersection at the time of the collision. The operator of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver was not injured. Alcohol and drug use do not appear to be factors in this collision.

Identified:

The operator of the 2008 Buell XB12XT motorcycle was identified as Jason V BANTON, 36, of Warrenton

The driver of the 2003 Chevrolet 4500 truck was identified as a 38 year old man of Manassas

NOKESVILLE, Va. —  A motorcycle driver was killed in a crash this morning in the area of Aden Road between Fleetwood Drive and Hershey Drive in Nokesville.

“The motorcycle operator was pronounced dead at the scene,” police spokesman Officer Jonathan Perok said. “The operator of the other vehicle remained at the scene.”

Police received a call about the crash around 7:41 a.m. this morning. Crash investigators are not releasing the victim’s ID pending next of kin notification.

“Aden Road in the above area will remain closed for an unknown amount of time,” Perok said.

Kenneth Nicol, of Stafford, was driving to his Manassas office from Stafford when he saw the crash.

He was a large truck was moving through a four-way stop intersection at Aden and Fleetwood roads when a motorcyclist came barreling toward the intersection.

“The truck had stopped, and when it started to go, I guess the motorcycle coming down the road [from another direction] didn’t see the stop sign,” said Nicol.

The motorcyclist applied the brakes but it was too late. He was hit by the truck and the rider flew from his bike, said Nicol.

Immediately, Nicol got out of his car and ran to help the rider who, according to Nicol, had already died.

“I went to help him but there was nothing I could do,” he said.

Traffic at the intersection backed up quickly, and then police officers showed up.

“It was more instinct that anything. I happened quick saw the accident and it happened, didn’t think about it,” said Nicol. “it bothered me that no one else came to help.”

The fatal crash comes a day after a pedestrian was struck and killed on Vint Hill Road in Nokesville
