STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. – Officials last night approved $1 million for the purchase of about five acres of land, near Va. 610 and Shelton Shop Road, where a permanent firehouse will be built.
A temporary fire house already sits on the site which backs to North Stafford High School.
“This location is about as perfect as you can get for servicing that side of Garrisonville, and then extending that service out to the Rock Hill area,” said Stafford Chairman L. Mark Dudenhefer, R-Garrisonville. “We identified a weakness in our fire coverage in the Rock Hill area, as both Rock Hill and the Garrisonville areas have grown faster that we were able to provide services to them.”
Station 14 as it is known, once built, could resemble a newly constructed fire station on Courthouse Road, across from the county’s public safety complex.
Officials did not say when the county will borrow additional money to build the fire house. The price tag could run anywhere between six and eight million dollars, said Dudenhefer.
