STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. — Have you ever seen a cannon fire at night?
This weekend marks the 6th annual “Yankees in Falmouth and Some Confederates, too” celebration.
The daylong festival will commemorate the Union Army’s occupation of Falmouth, which during the Civil War was a bustling riverside community in Stafford County.
After the daytime festivities, a cannon will be fired at the Historic Port of Falmouth Park, with a special hour-long program beginning at 8:30 p.m.
Admission to the festival is free, and parking will be available at the Historic Port of Falmouth Park.
“People attending the event should wear comfy shoes and bring a flashlight,” said Stafford County Tourism spokeswoman Sarah Kirkpatrick.
The Moncure Conway House sits directly across from the Port of Falmouth Park and will be the site of several activities during the day Saturday including artillery firing demonstrations, as well as tours of the historic home.
