DALE CITY, Va. — A water tank in Dale City is getting a face lift.
The Packard Water Tank on Gideon Drive in the Ashdale section of Dale City will be repainted for the first time since 1999. With corrosion on its roof, Virginia American Water — which owns and maintains the tank — will also replace it at the same time the paint job is completed.
The work represents a $942,000 investment into the local water supply system, according to the company. The tank’s roof replacement and new paint job should be completed by December, and a tarp will be hung on the outside of the tank to ensure dust and other particles stay out of the area as much as possible during the work.
Crews will work on the project from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays, and on weekends if needed.
The tank will be repainted blue to match the current color. If it were a new tank, Virginia American Water spokeswoman Samantha Villegas says the agency would work with residents and area officials to select what color the tank should be, or what design — if any — it should include.
But, since is a rehab project, the company decided to stick with the same color paint.

The tank holds 1 million gallons of water.
