Prince William ‘Century Ride’ Ready to Roll

OCCOQUAN, Va. — More than 80 people on Sunday will see Prince William County’s four towns from the seat of their bicycle.

The first-ever “Tour of the Towns — Tour of Prince William” organized by Occoquan Mayor Earnie Porta has closed it’s registration books, and the response to the idea of touring the country by bike has caught on.

More in an email from Porta:

Almost 40% of the participants are from outside Prince William County, and riders range in age from their 30s to their 70s.

Additionally, more than 50% of the riders have signed up for the 100-mile route, which means that they will be visiting all of the Prince William area’s cities and towns.

Please make it a point to welcome these riders who are contributing to our local economy.

The tour will depart Occoquan and offer three routes — the first, a 27-mile jaunt, the second, a 35-mile trek, and, finally, a 100-mile marathon, where participants will use multi-purpose trails to tour Dumfries, Quantico, Prince William Forest Park, and Haymarket. The vent has been dubbed the “century ride.”

According to the event website, the terrain varies across the county:

Wind through urban, suburban, exurban, rural, forested, town, flat, and hilly areas.

Advanced registration for the event is closed, but participants can still register the day of the event on Sunday.

Details of the ride, and a registration fee schedule is posted online.
