Driver Charged in Fuel Spill

BRISTOW, Va. — The driver of a tanker truck that overturned carrying 8,500 gallons of fuel last week has been charged.

James Burless, of Leesburg, is charged with reckless driving, said Prince William police spokesman Jonathan Perok.

The fuel spill on Thursday night caused a portion of Sudley Manor Drive in Bristow to be closed for several hours while fire and rescue and HAZMAT crews worked to clean up the spilled fuel.

No one was injured when the tanker overturned. However, officials warned the effects of the spill could be long lasting

Fire and rescue crews from as far away as Dulles Airport were called to assist with the containment and cleanup of the spill.

Officials closed a dam at nearby Lake Manassas to try to prevent fuel from spilling into the water.
