Emilie McGinnis, a Colgan High senior who has lived in Prince William her whole life, is stepping up to cover both the Prince William Board of County Supervisors and the Stafford County Board of Supervisors starting September 7.
She began as an intern, already helped report on a Manassas school board candidate’s religion-in-schools posts, and is now diving into the daily grind of transcripts, budgets, and data-center debates. The two counties sit next to each other on the map but run very differently—one with a county executive, the other with elected constitutional officers—and Emilie plans to compare them side by side. Stafford just delivered one of the larger local tax increases in recent Virginia history, while Prince William continues to wrestle with its automatic school-funding formula.
