MANASSAS, Va. — Historic Manassas Inc. is growing its farmers’ market with new programs aimed at expanding access to fresh food and supporting local businesses.
The Manassas Farmers’ Market, held Thursdays at Harris Pavilion and Saturdays at the VRE commuter lot on Prince William Street, kicked off its spring season in April. This year brings expanded community initiatives, including an increase in the SNAP Match program to $40 thanks to a larger Virginia Fresh Match grant.
“We want to make sure people know they can still use their SNAP EBT card at the market and get even more fresh fruits and vegetables,” said Jheanel Butler, Events and Vendor Manager at Historic Manassas Inc.
Another major new feature is the Power of Produce (POP) Club for children 14 and under. Launching May 10, the free program includes hands-on activities, a “Two-Bite Club” food-tasting adventure, and $4 vouchers for kids to spend at the market.
Additionally, the market now features a larger “Community Row” with more downtown businesses and nonprofit organizations participating, alongside a reconfiguration that moves food trucks onto the street for better flow and visibility.
The Manassas Farmers’ Market recently earned Gold Certification from the Virginia Farmers Market Association for the second year in a row — one of only 20 markets statewide to receive this honor and the only one in the Greater Manassas region.
“Our farmers’ market is about more than fresh produce. It’s about building community and giving entrepreneurs a platform to grow,” said Kristen Kiefer, Executive Director of Historic Manassas Inc.
