The CDC has recalled an experimental coronavirus test used in our area to determine whether or not residents were infected with a disease that caused a worldwide pandemic.
The CDC will not renew its emergency use authorization for the 2019-nCoV RT-PCR test at the end of the year. This specific test can't tell the difference between coronavirus and the flu.
"The test can detect COVID, but it cannot detect the flu," said Sean Morris, an epidemiologist with the Prince William Health District. Testing sites are encouraged to begin using other types of PCR tests.
