Bus Crash Causes Delays at Dumfries

NEW THIS MORNING

The bus that crashed along Interstate 95 in Dumfries this morning, causing massive delays from Prince William Count south to Stafford County, was headed to Fort Belvoir.

Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller said a car swerved into the travel lane of the bus, and the bus driver then swerved to avoid the car and hit the guardrail and then crashing into the three-foot deep ditch.

The driver was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, and all eight occupants (not 15 as was originally reported by state police) suffered minor injuries. No one was taken to a hospital, Geller added.

The driver that swerved into the path of the bus continued traveling north and has not been found.

The bus is owned by Fredericksburg-based LW Transportation, a company that offers charter bus services.

The accident was cleared from the roadway by 7 a.m.
