Polling places across Virginia are open today as Republicans help to decide who will be that party’s presidential candidate in the November General Election.
Virginia and eight other states are taking part in Super Tuesday, which is traditionally the first Tuesday in March during a presidential election when a several states hold primaries at the same time.
But political analysts say Super Tuesday will be anything but super in the commonwealth as only Mitt Romney and Ron Paul have qualified to be on the ballot in the state. Romney is expected to pick up a big win in Virginia giving him the state’s 49 delegates, according to political observers.
While Democrats are not holding a primary today, Virginia does not require voters to register by party affiliation, which opens up today’s primary to any registered voter in the state.
In all, a total of 410 delegates are up for grabs in primaries being held across the nation today.
