Police Cruisers will Line I-95 Friday

If you see a long line of Virginia State Police cruisers on Interstate 95 on Friday, don’ be alarmed.

The police agency will hold its largest commencement ceremony in its 80-year history, promoting 108 men and women from cadets to troopers as part of its 117th Basic Training session.

The last time there has been as many state police cruisers mobilized on area highways was following the shootings at Virginia Tech in 2007, said VSP spokeswoman Corinne Geller.

The commencement ceremony will be held at Meadow Event Park in Caroline County, the planned ceremony moved 29 miles north from it’s home at Virginia State Police Administrative Headquarters in Chesterfield County.

The graduates began their training on June 27, 2011, and in the past eight months have received 1,800 hours of classroom and field instruction, said Geller.
