STAFFORD – (Press release) Route 218 (Caledon Road/White Oak Road) in Stafford and King George counties will be reduced to a single lane at midday over the next two weeks to allow crews to install a centerline rumble strip as a safety improvement.
Route 218 will be reduced to a single lane between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Monday, April 1 through Friday, April 5, and again on Monday, April 8 through Friday, April 12.
Motorists can expect brief delays and one-way, alternating traffic between Route 1158 (Baron Park Road) in Stafford and the entrance to Caledon State Park in King George. A flagging crew will direct motorists through the work zone, which will be mobile and change locations each day as crews make progress.
When driven over, rumble strips create noise and vibration to alert drivers that they have strayed from their lane, and need to correct their course. The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is installing centerline rumble strips on primary roads as funding allows to reduce the risk of head-on and roadway departure crashes.
