When my wife and I walked into the lobby, the holiday spirit hit us right away. The halls are decked, a big Christmas tree shines in the center, and the sound of carols fills the room. As we sat down to dinner, she looked around and said, “This just feels like Christmas.” And she was right — it did.
A Classic Story Done Right
If you’ve seen the 1954 movie, you’ll recognize the story. Bob Wallace and Phil Davis are Army buddies turned entertainers who cross paths with the Haynes sisters, Betty and Judy. There’s romance, comedy, and plenty of old-fashioned charm as the two acts head north to put on a show — and maybe fall in love along the way.
The Riverside cast brings this story to life with big energy and bigger smiles. The choreography is sharp, the orchestra sounds fantastic, and the sets and costumes make you feel like you’ve stepped right into a holiday postcard.
Standout Performances
Kevin Cleary plays Bob Wallace — the Bing Crosby role — with warmth and confidence. Jordan Thomas Burnett, as Phil Davis, is full of life and quick with the comedy. Together, they’ve got that easy chemistry you want from this duo.
Ally Dods and Sarah Mae Andersen make a great team as the Haynes sisters. Andersen especially shines — calm offstage, but pure star power when the lights come up.
And I have to give a special mention to Sally Roehl, who dances her heart out in this show — and then turns around and serves dinner in the same evening. That’s the beauty of Riverside’s dinner-theatre setup: you can see how much heart their performers put into everything they do.
It’s a Big, Bright Christmas Show
From “Blue Skies,” “Let Yourself Go,” and “White Christmas,” the numbers are huge — the kind that make you want to tap your feet. The lighting, sets, and costumes all come together to create a real sense of magic.
This isn’t just another holiday musical; it’s an experience that will make you slow down, take a breath, and really feel the season.
