FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Fredericksburg City School Board will meet tonight to choose a temporary replacement for Ward 3 representative Jennifer Boyd, who resigned earlier this month after moving out of the city.
Boyd’s departure on Sept. 8 left a vacancy the Board must fill by appointment. Whoever is chosen tonight will serve through the end of her term on Dec. 31, 2025.
Four Fredericksburg residents have applied for the seat. Christopher James Butz, an attorney and parent of two children in city schools, has served on advisory committees and points to his legal background and school involvement. Caitlin Finlayson, Ph.D., is a professor of geography at the University of Mary Washington with an extensive record of teaching, publishing, and mentoring students. Elizabeth Rehm, a physical therapist, previously served nine years on the School Board and is active in church and community service. Keon Toyer, an executive in education technology and operations, has led large initiatives for K–12 charter schools and currently serves on the board of The Literacy Lab, a national nonprofit focused on literacy.
The Board will hear public comment and then vote on an appointee at tonight’s meeting. The person selected will represent Ward 3 families and help guide the school division through the remainder of the year.
