Parents protest as schools push for universal mask requirement

School officials in Stafford County on Tuesday recommended its elected School Board require all students and staff to wear facemasks upon their return to school in two-and-a-half weeks.

The mask mandate would be in effect for all teachers, staff, and students regardless of vaccination status. Children between the ages of 12 and 18 are permitted to receive a coronavirus vaccination, however, it could be January before children age 11 and under are eligible for the jab.

"How do you keep straight who should be masked and who shouldn't be," asked Colette Hokana, the school division's administrator of health services who briefed the school board on the recommendation.
