Troy V. Miller

Troy Vernon Miller, age 50, formerly of Duncannon, PA, passed at his home in Woodbridge, VA on March 20, 2020 surrounded by loved ones after a battle with lung cancer.  Troy was born September 8, 1969.  Troy married Susan Payne on September 15, 2012.

Troy was a 1987 graduate of Susquenita High School.  He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Dietetics from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1991 and a Bachelor’s Degree in TurfgrassScience from the Pennsylvania State University graduating Cum Laude in 1996.  His first degree matched his personality.  Troy believed in a healthy lifestyle.  His second degree matched his passion.  From an early age, Troy enjoyed maintaining the beauty of a golf course.

Troy worked at various golf courses before starting his career with Fairfax County, VA where he became the Superintendent at Oak Marr Golf Course.  Most recently Troy worked in park management. For the last 5 years he was a group Manager and prior to that he was the Turfgrass Specialist managing natural and synthetic turf programs for all of the park athletic fields.  Recently, Troy accepted an appointment as the Athletic Field Contract Administrator.  Troy was very passionate about the work he did and can be proud of his contribution to the Fairfax County Park Authority.

In his free time, Troy liked to stay busy and always had a project either remodeling his home or repairing a vehicle.  Troy was aresourceful problem solver and could fix or rebuild anything.  Troy’s enjoyment of working out at the local gym led him to meeting his wife.  Finally, Troy was an avid motorcycle rider.

Troy is survived by his wife Susan, his step-daughter MelindaSlusher and husband Richard of Woodbridge, VA, a step-granddaughter Riley Slusher from Woodbridge, and step-son Martin Boone and wife Sandra from Chicago, IL, his parents William and Sandra (Kumler) Miller from Duncannon, PA, his sister Angela (Miller) and husband Joseph DeMario from Enola, PA, his sister Wendy (Miller) and husband Harold Malehornfrom Selinsgrove, PA, and his maternal grandmother Betty B.Klinepeter from Duncannon, PA.

Troy deserves a beautiful tribute.  However, we appreciate in this unprecedented time of the Covid-19 pandemic that attending a visitation or funeral service is not in the best interest of public health.  Please be with us in prayer.  At a later date, Troy will be lovingly remembered at Memorial services in Virginia and Pennsylvania. The family will publish the date of each service on social media in the coming months, once the virus has run its course and the authorities communicate it is safe to resume public gatherings.

Memorial contribution can be made to the American Cancer Society.
