Louise Grimsley Velasquez

Louise G. Velasquez of Manassas passed away on September 8, 2019, at home surrounded by her family. Born September 2, 1931, in Flint Hill, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Addie Grimsley, her brother Walter  Grimsley, Jr. and sister Eleanor Moore. She is survived by her husband of sixty-nine years, Manuel L. Velasquez also of Manassas, son John Walter Velasquez of Clewiston, Florida, and sister Lana Frye of Towson, Maryland.

Louise graduated from Marshall High School in Marshall, Virginia. Upon graduation from high school, she enlisted in the army and served for two years in the Women’s  Army Corps and attained the rank of Corporal. During her service in the military, Louise met and married Manuel L. Velasquez at Fort Myer, Virginia in 1951.

After leaving the army, Louise attended nursing school at Winchester Memorial Hospital in Winchester, Virginia. After graduation, she worked at Newton D. Baker Veteran’s  Hospital in Martinsburg, West Virginia. She often said how she loved working with the veterans. Later she worked at Columbia Hospital for Women in Washington, DC and finally at Prince William Hospital in the Alcohol Treatment Center.

Louise and Manny loved to learn about other cultures and places and traveled all over the world. Later in life, they went on many group bus tours throughout the United States and  Canada. Louise was also an avid “fisherwoman” and loved her many fishing adventures with her beloved son John.

Louise was a friend to all she knew and loved by so many people. She will be missed,  and fondly remembered by all that we’re blessed to know her.

Visitation will be at Ames Funeral Home, 8914 Quarry Rd, Manassas, VA 20110 on  Monday, September 16, 2019, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. with funeral services at Ames at 11  a.m. Burial will be at Quantico National Cemetery, 18424 Joplin Rd, Triangle, VA  22172.
