New middle school celebrated at groundbreaking ceremony

DUMFRIES — The groundbreaking ceremony for “Potomac Shores” Middle School took place today.  Local elected officials joined School Board members and Superintendent Dr. Steve Walts for the ceremony.

The school, which will be officially named in the coming months, is set to open in the fall of 2021.

The sun peaked out just as the ceremony got underway at the scenic site where construction has begun.

Superintendent Dr. Steve Walts, Deputy Superintendent Keith Imon, Senator Scott A. Surovell, School Board Vice Chairman Justin David Wilk, and Board of County Supervisor Vice Chairman Maureen Caddigan each shared a few words during the ceremony before taking a ceremonial turn of the dirt.

Dignitaries in attendance included School Board Chairman Babur B. Lateef, M.D., Vice Chairman Justin David Wilk (Potomac) and Gainesville School Board member Alyson A. Satterwhite; Senator Scott A. Surovell (36th); Board of County Supervisors Vice Chairman, Maureen S. Caddigan (Potomac) and Supervisor Frank J.
