DUMFRIES – (Press Release) The 2019 Polar Plunge Festival will be held on February 23 at Tim’s Rivershore Restaurant & Crabhouse in Dumfries. All proceeds will go to Special Olympics Virginia.
The festival has a $100,000 goal. Interested participants can register right up until start time on event day. For more details and a schedule of events, check out our event website, polarplunge.com/tims-rivershore. Please note all event times are subject to change based on weather and water conditions.
It costs $100 to plunge. More raised money will result in different prizes, including your name on a sidewalk star (if you or your team raises more than $5,000.) The top fundraiser will get a Potomac Nationals season ticket package and the top team gets a Potomac Nationals ticket package for the team. Every plunger will also get one Potomac Nationals game voucher!
Plungers will take to the icy Potomac for the main event at 2:30 p.m. to cap off the day, which is open to all and includes live music by Van Galen, a costume contest and parade, and food and drinks from Tim’s Rivershore Restaurant & Crabhouse.
The 2019 NOVA Polar Plunge® Festival is presented by the Prince William County Police Department, Tim’s Rivershore Restaurant & Crabhouse and the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Virginia.
This event is one of five Polar Plunge® Festivals in Virginia. In addition to the Tim’s Rivershore event, a plunge also will take place February 23 in the New River Valley. The Solar Plunge is set for June 8 in Richmond during our largest annual competition, Summer Games.
Plungers kicked things off January 19 in Fairfax at a brand new location (the Mosaic District); this plunge raised $34,000. The biggest event in Virginia Beach took place February 1 to 2 and raised $1.23 million for Special Olympics Virginia.

Inspired by local physicians who were among the nation’s first to adopt the concierge medicine model, Northern Virginia is now a hub for its surging popularity. These leading physicians are redefining the patient experience with same-day appointments, direct availability, unhurried visits, and deeply personalized care:
After almost 40 years in practice, Manassas-based Internist John Cary, MD’s change to concierge medicine enabled focused attention for each individual, and the launch of his innovative diet program for those with type 2 diabetes. “The goal is to promote enough weight loss to reach an acceptable A1C of 6% with no medication,” he explains. “Achieving that can take several months of very close follow up. As I tell my patients, we are in this together.”
Jay Tyroler, MD considers his patients quite literally as family. “I believe there’s nothing more honorable than helping patients when they’re sick, or scared, or feeling vulnerable, and I care for them exactly as I would my loved ones.” Whether for a specialist referral, urgent health issue or ongoing follow up, “My patients know I’m always just a phone call away.”
