Student, 17, charged with making threats at his Manassas high school

MANASSAS — A 17-year-old was charged this morning with making threats to his high school, Osbourn High School in Manassas.

We don’t yet know what the specific threat was. We’re waiting for Manassas police to give us more information.

They’ve told us:

On November 16, 2018, the Manassas City Police Department received information about a possible threat to school grounds made on social media. During the course of the investigation, the suspect, a 17-year-old Osbourn High School student, was identified and determined not to be a threat to schools at this time. As a precaution, there will be extra police presence at Manassas City Public Schools today. Detectives will continue to follow-up on this investigation.

Police tell us the suspect threatened gun violence at the school. However, the student is not in custody because he is out of the country, according to police spokeswoman Sarah Maroney.
