GAINESVILLE – A service to celebrate the life of Ronald "Rus" Dennis Rusnak, 71, of Gainesville, VA will be held on Friday, August 18, 2017 at Greenhill Winery and Vineyard, in Middleburg. The family will receive friends and family from 1:00 until 4:00 p.m.

Rus passed away at home on Tuesday, August 15, 2017. He was born April 10, 1946 in Ft Dodge, Iowa to the late Stephen Rusnak and Alvina Nekvinda Rusnak. He served his country during the Vietnam War in the US Army where he was assigned to the Radio Research Division. During this time he received the Bronze Star Metal for valor in the face of adversity. After returning home from the war he was stationed at Vint Hill Farm where he met his wife Barbara Fletcher Rusnak. After they wed in 1972, he began a 36 year career as a Rural Letter Carrier with the USPS.

Rus is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Barbara Fletcher Rusnak; children, Catherine "Kate" Rusnak of Sterling and Ryan Douglas Rusnak (Kirby) of San Diego; brothers, Bruce (Marie) and Kevin (Donald) Rusnak; sister Patricia Rusnak Cameron (Thomas); 13 nieces and nephews, and 4 grand nieces and nephews.

Rus loved his family, friends, and making sure everyone was taken care of. He was an avid Washington, D.C. sports fan and was dedicated to the Virginia Tech Hokies. He loved to share stories of adventures with his family and friends and was proud of the many successes of his children, Kate and Ryan. Rus was a truly happy man.

The family would like to thank all of the support received so far from family, friends, and neighbors during this unexpected time.
