Ira C. McQuinn Jr.

Ira C McQuinn Jr, born on December 28,1935 in Indiana to Ira and Gertrude McQuinn passed away on July 29, 2017.

Mac, as he was known by all, was one of the most friendly, lovable guys around. He went into military service in 1955 and proudly served his country in the Army until his retirement in 1979. During the time of his service he was stationed in France, Germany, Johnson Island, Greenland, Vietnam, Korea, Colorado, Illinois, Maryland and Virginia. He was awarded the Army Commendation medal; Good Conduct Medal (8th Award); Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device 60; Vietnam Service Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/Palm (2nd Award) and the Mechanics Badge w/Bar. Upon returning to the States his duties were focused on helping those new to the service to learn and grow. He was an instructor at the Army Training School and we in charge of the students there.

Perhaps the best thing that came out of his career in the military was his meeting his wife, Josette in France when he was stationed there. Theirs is truly a great love story that brought them their daughter, Nancy and son, Christopher. Together as a family they traveled the world.

Throughout their travels, no one was ever a stranger. Mac had the ability to make friends everywhere they went. He had no problem sharing his life story with those he would meet. People loved his openness and likeability. Even his doctor said that " He was the sweetest, kindest man, always happy and the he will deeply miss him."

He liked to say "I’m mean and ornery", but he knew that would just make people smile. Everyone knew that he did not have a mean bone in his body.

Mac enjoyed playing cards and board games; collecting stamps and coins and being on the computer. He loved to watch the Washington Redskins play. He was a huge football fan. He just enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, what they did when together did not really matter as long as he was with them.

Mac leaves behind his wife of 59 years, Josette, who he loved more than life, his daughter Nancy Corbin and her husband Chuck, his son Christopher and his wife Annette as well as his grandchildren Nicole, Jonathan, Jimmy, Ryan and Karrisa and his great grandchildren Danesy, Caroline, Rowan, Abigail and Stella. He also leaves behind a host of extended family and friends. All will continue to hold his memory close to their heart.

There will be a visitation at Mountcastle Turch Funeral Home, 13318 Occoquan Road in Woodbridge, Virginia 22191 on Thursday, August 3, 2017 from 6-8PM. A celebration of his life will take place at 11:0am on Friday, August 4, 2017 at the funeral home followed by his interment in Quantico National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Mac’s memory to either the Disabled American Veterans, The ASPCA or the Cancer Society.
