Bertha Hale

Bertha Lester Hale, born January 11, 1936 in Williamson, West Virginia died peacefully on Sunday, June 25, 2017 in Roanoke, Virginia. She is preceded in death by her husband Carl Hale; her parents: James & Emily Lester; brothers: Thomas, Randy and Gary Lester; and a sister, Gladys Davis.

“Bert” as she was affectionately called, spent most of her adult life living in the Alexandria, Virginia area. She was employed by the Daughters of the American Revolution. She retired to the Lake Anna area in Louisa, Virginia.

She is survived by her two sons: James C. Hale of Louisa, Virginia and Brian “Keith” Hale (Elaine) of Front Royal, Virginia. She is survived by the following grandchildren: James “Lil Jim” Hale, Jr., Jamie Hale, Cynthia Hale, and Tracey Hale. Great-grandchildren include: Dominique Thompson, Autumn Foss, and James C. Hale, III.

She is survived by sisters: Oretha “Pete” Browning (Kenny), Betty J. Hockenberry (Denny), and Kathy Gillespie (Carl). In addition she is survived by brothers: Lew Lester (Mary) and Jerry Lester. Bert leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on July 5, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00. The funeral service will be held from 1:00 – 1:30 p.m. with both taking place at Mountcastle Turch Life Celebration Home, 4143 Dale Boulevard, Dale City, Virginia. Burial will take place at 2:00 p.m. on July 5th at Quantico National Cemetery.
